Bangladesh is also infected with the global epidemic of Covid-19. As a result of the outbreak of this epidemic virus in Bangladesh, fish and shrimp farming has already lost 2 months of cultivation period, the effect of which will be evident in the production cycle at the same time of coming next year. Fish and shrimp farming is mainly in force from March to October as it is the time when fish and shrimp growth rate is fast. For this reason, our fish and shrimp farmers plan to stock fish and shrimp fry/PL in their enclosures by every March / April throughout the year. Due to the nationwide lockdown, most of the fish and shrimp farmers could not stock their fry/Pl at the scheduled time. This loss is irreparable. But there is still time, if we are a little more aware, we can recoup this period. This requires new motivation and strategy. The first strategy is to keep the size of the fish fry in stock for 200-250 gm each (excluding only putty fish fry) and to stock a maximum of 15 fry per decimal. And in case of lobster / bagged shrimp, it is necessary to nurse them in the enclosure for 15-21 days without storing Renu / PL directly in the enclosure. A small note on the notice board about shrimp nursing has already been given here. After proper nursing, 70-80 juviniles Golda of same size and 120-150 Bagda per decimal should be stock. Then we will get back at least 15-20 days wasted time of fish farming. The second strategy is that farmers in the region do not usually use high quality nutritious supplementry food as regular food for their fish and shrimp. As a result, the growth of fish and shrimp is comparatively low. In this case regular use of nutritious supplementary food should be used as well as urea and TSP fertilizer at the rate of 100 gm per decimal to make natural food in the enclosure. However, instead of chemical fertilizer in shrimp main enclosure, auto ricebran at the rate of 75-100 grams per cent, molasses at the rate of 85-100 grams and 3-4 tea spoons of yeast per 33 decimal should be mixed together (usage rules have already been discussed earlier). Good results can be obtained by measuring the pH of the water and using auto rice barn and molasses. If the pH of the water is high, molasses should be used at the highest level and rice barn at the lowest level per hundred. Apart from this, any advice or soil and water test of the enclosure during cultivation is provided free of cost from the office of Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, Mollahat, Bagerhat.
